About Us

The Pelham Weekly

The Pelham Weekly was founded in June of 1992 by Maggie Klein, a long time resident of the Pelhams and a former journalist and editor with Reuters Financial News Service.

Our stated goal is to report news "of, for and about Pelham"  --in the two villages (Pelham and Pelham Manor) which comprise the Town of Pelham in New York state. We try to have news in every paper that is of interest to people of all ages. Our regular features include Have You Heard? with social news, birth announcements and the like; Soupçon, a recipe column written by a former long time resident, Sandy Dolan; and Garden Notes by local landscaper Richard Heller as well as Religiously Speaking, Police Report and So What's Happening... (calendar).

The Town of Pelham is a small and close community with a population of 12,000, which includes professionals who commute to Manhattan by train (28 minutes to Grand Central) or cars. Many are two income families who moved to the suburbs to find good schools for their growing families. We also have many second and third generation families of all economic classes.

The median income in the Town of Pelham is $120,000. The average house selling price in 2005 was $700,000.

Pelham residents are active in their community and have founded these landmarks through voluntary fundraising:
-  Pelham Art Center (1985)
-  Pelham Rotary Gazebo (1994)
-  Pelham Town Library (1995)

Current fundraising efforts focus on restoration and renovation of the Pelham Picture House and create a regional film center for southern Westchester County.
